MSI MPG 341CQPX may give ultrawide OLED the 240Hz treatment

Up, up, and away!

MSI MPG 341CQPX leaks show a wonderfully speedy ultrawide OLED gaming monitor.

MSI has been on something of a hot streak lately, releasing some of our favourite OLED gaming monitors. It isn’t resting on its laurels, though, as there is more to come. MSI MPG 341CQPX, for example, is set to raise the bar of OLED ultrawide monitors higher than it’s ever been.

Astute readers such as yourself might spy that the name is similar to MSI MPG 341CQP that’s already available. The reason is that the new X model is its replacement, and the old version is now end-of-life. Instead, MPG 341CQPX ditches the 175Hz confines of the first-generation panel for a competitive 240Hz refresh rate instead.

Although the new monitor boasts Samsung second-gen tech, TFT Central aptly dubs it Gen 2.5. This is because it includes improved pixel structures that weren’t in the first wave. It’s strange that Samsung doesn’t include it among the Gen 3 panels we see in our MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED review. Hopefully that’ll become clearer when we see for ourselves.

Other than the refresh rate, the MSI MPG 341CQP specs sheet will look almost identical to its predecessor. It reportedly has a 0.03ms response time, 1.5 million:1 contrast ratio, 250nits brightness (SDR), and 1000nits peak brightness (HDR). The 1800R curved screen even has the same ample 178°/178° viewing angles. If it follows in the footsteps of its brethren, it’ll also arrive with a colour gamut that’s ~97% and above, particularly AdobeRGB and DCI-P3.

Ports will also be aplenty, with a DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1, and a USB Type-C with DP Alt for video. The latter should even include 98W power delivery. Unlike Alienware’s lot, it should also include a KVM switch connected to several USB Type-A ports. I don’t reckon it’ll pack more than two, though I’d hope to see four.

It’ll surely come with a three-year warranty, which covers burn-in. MSI pairs all monitors with this to ease your mind about ghostly images potentially overstaying their welcome. I imagine it’ll also include the impeccable OLED Care 2.0 suite as a preventative.

TFT Central believes MSI MPG 341CQPX should launch in April, but it could be later. We also don’t yet know how much it’ll cost.

If you don’t want to wait, the 175Hz model is still on the shelves. Don’t be put off by the first-gen screen, as it still looks fantastic.
