Marie Salomea Skłodowska Curie was born on this day in 1867. Curie is probably most famous for being the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and being the first person to win a Nobel Prize twice (in two different fields). She coined the term radioactivity and discovered radioactive elements like Polonium and Radium. The latter element would become famous in the UK in the late 70s due to the introductory narration of the cult sci-fi/fantasy series called Sapphire and Steel. More recently (2004), Nvidia introduced the Curie GPU microarchitecture to power its GeForce 6 and 7 Series graphics cards.
