CEO Bill Gates promised a release by April 1984, however it wasn’t released to retail, as Windows 1.01 in the US, until November 1985. Windows didn’t really gain traction until Windows 3.1, released in April 1992, debuting built-in TrueType font rendering, introducing the Windows Registry, 386 Enhanced Mode, drag & drop UI functionality, and replacing Reversi with Minesweeper.
