Agon by AOC is a brand name synonymous with high-refresh-rate gaming monitors at competitive prices, and to that effect, the company has recently launched a new iteration dubbed the AOC Gaming 25G3ZM, which is a 25in monitor that combines high frames with deep vivid colours – the best of both worlds, according to the company.
Although IPS is all the rage right now, a good VA panel can rival even the best, and this new monitor utilises VA tech to great effect. Offering a 1920×1080 resolution at 240Hz, and a 1ms GTG response time, those high refresh rates can be achieved with a mid-range graphics card… and that’s exactly what AOC is aiming for. Video output is managed by one DisplayPort 1.2 and two HDMI 2.0 ports.
VA is second only to OLED panels when it comes to contrast, and it’s quite evident here, as the display musters 3000:1 contrast ratio for deep blacks and darker scenes, and though the 300 nits of peak brightness is nothing to write home about, it’s reasonable for everyday use. 25G3ZM also has an anti-glare protective coating to help block indirect sunlight. Sun, be damned.
AOC promises 100 per cent sRGB colour space coverage and 92 per cent DCI-P3 coverage of the wider colour gamut space. Additional software features include 8-bit colour depth support for 16.7-million colours, AMD FreeSync Premium for stutter- and tear-free gaming, and a bevy of customised game modes to enhance image reproduction when playing various genres.
Rounding off, the monitor comes bundled with a four-legged stand that supports 130mm height adjust, up to 90-degree pivot, and can swivel and tilt by a reasonable amount. It also has cable managements incorporated in its design for clean and clutter-free cables. Looking to third-party offerings, the AOC Gaming carries a 100x100mm VESA mount.
As it stands, the AOC GAMING 25G3ZM/BK will be available later this month for £189.99.
