Some partner RTX 4080 16GB cards costing more than entry-level RTX 4090

No, thank you, I will pass at these prices.

Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4080 16GB card is coming to retail next week. Dampening attractiveness is leaked add-in-card pricing running from €1,600 all the way to an absurd €2,129.

Twitter user @harukaze5719 spotted eight partner RTX 4080 16GB graphics cards on a European online retailer, including models from Asus, Gigabyte, and PNY. The most expensive were Asus’s ROG Strix OC and TUF Gaming OC at €2,129 and €1,969, respectively, with cheaper spots covered by PNY’s Verto and XLR8 Gaming Verto OC costing €1,729 and €1,560, respectively.

If pricing holds firm, it’s very difficult to justify partner cards, especially as Nvidia has confirmed a €1,469 price tag for the well-built Founders Edition. Over $2,000, frankly, is bordering on the ridiculous.

As a reminder, the RTX 4080 16GB GPU boosts to 2.51GHz and offers 9,728 CUDA cores, 304 Tensor cores, 76 RT cores, and 64MB of L2 cache, alongside 16GB of 22.4Gbps GDDR6X memory running on a 256-bit bus, all inside a 320W board power envelope.

Though it sounds powerful, most commentators agree performance will fall some way short of the boss RTX 4090. Adding more angst, rival AMD’s recent announcement for Radeon RX 7900 XTX and XT, priced from $999 and $899, will surely put the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons.

As always, these prices could simply be placeholders, and enthusiasts wanting in on RTX 40 Series action better hope they are. As it stands, Ada-powered GPUs are reserved for those very deep of pocket. Roll on November 15.
