Gamescom 2023, one of the biggest gaming events of the year will kick off August 23 in Cologne, Germany, and to celebrate the occasion, AMD has announced a special media event to showcase its next major product releases.
With several accidental product listings and rumours abound, it seems rather likely Team Red is set to unveil highly-anticipated Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 7700 XT graphics cards. AMD Senior VP Scott Herkelman all but confirmed this in a Tweet (or is it Xeet?) on X, imploring his followers to ““join the @AMDRadeon team at Gamescom next week for our next major product announcements!”
What’s more, the post is linked to an official AMD page detailing an ‘AMD Gaming Festival 2023’ event that kicks off on Friday, August 25, starting at 12:00 PM local time. The show is likely to be where the reveal will take place and starts at 17:00, presented by Herkelman and Frank Azor, AMD’s Chief Gaming Architect.
Interestingly, AMD’s next-generation FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 was revealed around the same time last year, alongside the announcement of the RX 7900 XT and XTX. Dubbed Fluid Motion Frames, it is a temporal upscaling solution akin to competitor Nvidia’s DLSS 3 Frame Generation, but the tech has since remained conspicuous in its absence.
Though we have not heard any new information from AMD since, a few inklings and rumours that suggest FSR 3 availability may coincide with the launch of Starfield. If anything, Gamescom 2023 could be the perfect opportunity to showcase its latest upscaling tech, and perhaps one final Starfield gameplay reveal? One can only hope.
Nevertheless, the Radeon RX 7800 XT is reported to leverage AMD’s latest NAVI 32 RDNA 3 silicon, that is built on a maturing 5nm process and said to feature 60 RDNA 3 CUs, equating to 3,840 stream processors, 120 AI accelerators, and 60 ray accelerators. Leaks suggest it operates at 2,210MHz game clock and 2,520MHz boost clock speeds, while packing 16GB of GDDR6 memory at an effective 18Gbps via a 256-bit bus.
Mid-range Radeon RX 7700 XT information and specs are few and far between, save for leaked 3DMark benchmarks that reveal intriguing uplifts over last-gen counterparts. Pricing also remains a mystery, perhaps, £449 and £599, respectively, would appease most users? Given the exorbitant cost of graphics cards in recent years, we await with anticipation.
