Despite their age, Nvidia’s Shield TV streaming media players remain hugely popular in a crowded market. First released back in 2019, the Tegra X1+-powered devices continue to lead the way for 4K upscaling and Dolby Vision support, making them go-to solutions for Plex users who continue to regard Shield TV as the gold standard.
Upgraded models are long overdue, yet if you’ve been sat on the fence waiting for a decent sale, you’re in luck as a limited-time promotion is underway at Amazon. Right now, the regular Shield TV has been slashed by 33 per cent, reducing the fee from £149.99 to a more palatable £99.99. At that price, it’s a helpful upgrade for a Smart TV whose onboard functions leave plenty to be desired.
Need more grunt? Shield TV Pro is also on offer at £159.98, down from £199.99. Both models carry a Tegra X1+ processor, yet while Shield TV makes do with 8GB of storage and 2GB RAM, Shield TV Pro touts 16GB storage and 3GB RAM as standard. Unlike many rivals, both variants also include Gigabit Ethernet connectivity as standard, which for streaming purposes is always preferable over Wi-Fi.
Healthy savings on both fronts, and as far as Android-based streaming devices go, they don’t come much better than this.
