Enthusiasts with their fingers on the pulse will know that Intel is preparing to unleash a wave of 14th Gen Core ‘Raptor Lake Refresh’ CPUs. Word on the grapevine is they’ll arrive October 17, and for the savvy DIY builder, that ought to pave the way for deals on current-gen parts.

Turns out you don’t have to wait until next week, as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D – arguably the best gaming CPU on the market today – has conveniently dropped to £359.99 UK and $381.56 US. The former is the lowest price we’ve ever recorded at Amazon UK, and Amazon US customers are also treated to a $32.56 coupon, bringing the cost of ownership down to $349!

AMD’s 8-core, 16-thread powerhouse scales to 5GHz and comes equipped with a hefty 96MB of L3 Cache that’s ideally suited to gaming workloads. If it’s maximum in-game framerate you crave, this here processor tops the chart more often than not.

A $100 saving over launch RRP is not to be scoffed at, and it’s worth noting this CPU was introduced a mere six months ago. A successor is not imminent, and investment in the supporting AM5 platform is expected to last a good few upgrades at the very least.
