Nvidia RTX 3050 6GB expected to launch in February below $200

Nvidia is still interested in the low-end.

More rumours are spinning about the fabled Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 6GB graphics card, revealing more specs. According to the whispers, the card might feature a smaller GPU and memory bus, alongside lower TBP and price.

Two weeks after the initial rumour regarding this cut-down RTX 3050 model, new information is out talking about the price and release date. To be exact, the RTX 3050 6GB might launch in February.

As it stands, rumours talk about a 20% smaller GA107 GPU packing 2,048 CUDA cores alongside 6GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Memory might run on a 96-bit bus, though its speed is still unknown. Such a combo should only sip power at 70W compared to the original RTX 3050 which sits at 130W. This means that the new model will not need an additional power connector, since the PCIe slot provides up to 75W. On the other hand, this will also lock any potential overclocking due to lack of power. Though some brands may still offer versions with extra power connectors, such as a six-pin PCIe.

For reference, this is the same CUDA count as the RTX 3050 Mobile, which delivers performance close to a Radeon RX 470 or GeForce GTX 1650.

As slow as it might be, the RTX 3050 6GB could be a nice low-power card for office machines that run 3D apps such as CAD. Likewise, it could transform those cheap office machines into affordable gaming boxes.

Rumours suggest the new GPU will retail for $179, $40 cheaper than its 8GB sibling. This would put it directly against AMD’s RX 6600 8GB, which sits at around $200 / £200. The latter can be found for an even cheaper £190 during discounts. Those on tighter budgets have no solution from Nvidia, so it would be either Intel or AMD.
