LG latest OLED monitor can switch refresh rate to 480Hz

One monitor to rule them all.

LG has unveiled its next step in OLED gaming monitors, combining high resolutions and refresh rates. The new series can swap between a high-resolution low-refresh to a low-resolution high-refresh.

The new UltraGear series includes what LG calls a Dual-Hz feature. The idea lets you switch between 4K 3840×2160 at 240Hz and Full HD 1920×1080 at 480Hz with a simple click. This approach combines the best of both worlds for gamers. With it, you can choose a detail-rich experience playing story-driven games or prioritise high frame rates in competitive titles.

In addition to this new feature, the series also benefits from OLED’s per-pixel control delivering outstanding contrast alongside a super quick 0.03ms GtG response time, boosting clarity by reducing motion blur.

While many gamers don’t care about built-in audio solutions, this time things may change. With the UltraGear 32GS95UE, LG is talking about a three-dimensional affaire, a so-called Pixel Sound technology. Moreover, said sound comes from dual front-facing woofers hidden behind the OLED panel and supporting DTS Virtual:X.

LG is planning at least six models. The first four come in 34in, 39in, and 44.5in, leveraging a 21:9 curved panel rocking a 3440×1440 resolution. The two remaining models opt for 26.5in and 32in flat 16:9 panels running a 2560×1440 and 3840×2160 resolutions. LG doesn’t say which models are getting the new Dual-Hz feature, so it could limit it to the 32in 4K UltraGear 32GS95UE.

Regardless of size and resolution, all monitors boast a 240Hz refresh rate and support G-Sync/FreeSync. LG equips each one with a DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1 ports, and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification. They come with the new slim stand, allowing height, tilt, and swivel adjustability, with pivot exclusive to small models.

LG didn’t provide any pricing yet but said that it’ll share more information this month.
