MSI pays wonderful homage to Monster Hunter with themed graphics, motherboard and monitor

The opposite of a sleeper PC.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Monster Hunter, MSI and Capcom have teamed up to release a bunch of themed computer hardware. In particular, there are seven limited-edition bits of cool-looking kit inspired by Monster Hunter and its emblematic Rathalos, which is a wyvern-type monster that can be seen in all games. I prefer the Westland Wyvern personally.

On the menu we have:

  • Crosshair 16 HX Monster Hunter Edition laptop.
  • RTX 4060 Ti 8G Gaming Slim Monster Hunter Edition graphics card.
  • MPG Z790 Edge Monster Hunter Edition motherboard.
  • MAG 274QRF QD E2 Monster Hunter Edition monitor.
  • MAG Coreliquid E360 Monster Hunter Edition AIO liquid cooler.
  • MPG Gungnir 300 Monster Hunter Edition chassis.
  • Force GC30 Monster Hunter Edition controller.

These are pre-existing products from MSI with a fresh coat of paint and extra Monster Hunter-themed livery. The laptop gets an engraved frame and a tattooed touchpad. The graphics card, meanwhile, swaps some grey shroud parts for transparent-red ones. The monitor’s rear becomes red with a bunch of patterns resembling dragon scales. Last but not least, the controller trades its all-black design for a gold D-pad plus a wyvern painting. My favourites from the list are definitely the monitor and the controller.

All this is to say that you should expect similar specs and performance from these special editions. The GPU should be as good as any RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, and the monitor will deliver 1440p resolution at 180Hz.

This is not the first time MSI ventured into custom hardware territories, of course, as previously it launched an Evangelion-themed collection. A concept that has also been covered by other brands such as Asus.

While MSI doesn’t disclose pricing, we can expect a small premium over equivalent base models. For example, the original MPG Z790 Edge can be had for £320, and the MAG Coreliquid E360 for £120.

Love a bit of Monster Hunter? You’ll dig these.
