This Elden Ring-inspired laptop mod is simply gorgeous and has viewers doing a double take all across social media. All it took to create was an old Asus laptop, some paper mâché, a 3D printer, and some skilful paintwork to craft this deadly beauty. Of course, it’s hard work, but the original creator is super talented and makes it look easy.
YouTube creator Design Something has handcrafted one of the most impressive laptop mods we’ve seen thus far. Dubbed ‘Elder’s Book,’ the ageing Asus laptop takes design inspiration from everyone’s favourite RPG, Elden Ring.
It has a rather ornate design featuring classic Elden Ring font, intricate border embellishments, and a spooky skull and sword centrepiece. Plus, the paper mâché exterior gives the laptop an ancient leather-bound appearance. The design carries over to the laptop’s interior with the same textured leather found bordering the keyboard. It’s completed with a cool-looking skull next to the touchpad. Chef’s kiss.
I’m not sure if we’ll be able to recreate it, but the creator used many off-the-shelf tools to craft this beauty. As mentioned before, the leather-bound look was created with paper mâché, using regular paper napkins and craft glue. The laptop surface was sanded with an orbital sander, giving the glue some grippy texture to hold on. Meanwhile, the designs were created in Autodesk 3ds Max and printed using Bambu Lab’s X1 Carbon 3D printer. It ends off with a mix of spray paint and handcrafted paintwork for the finer details.
Obviously, it’s an old laptop, as indicated by the VGA port in the rear, so it may not have the greatest specs. However, it’s nice to know Design Something saved this laptop from becoming e-waste, giving it a new lease on life.
