Corsair MP600 Elite Series is the Swiss Army Knife of SSDs

I would have preferred a DRAM version.

Corsair has launched its MP600 Elite M.2 SSD series, targeting every machine that can house a 2280 M.2 format. This includes desktops, laptops, and even consoles, all while delivering high performance.

The MP600 Elite Series will be available in 1TB and 2TB capacities using high-density 3D TLC NAND. Corsair will eventually offer a 4TB model later in April. The brand offers each one barebone or with a black or white heatsink. Since they operate at Gen 4 speeds, all variants are efficient enough that they don’t need a dedicated cooler. The compact heatsink works just fine. Go without, and it’ll fit right inside Sony’s PlayStation 5 consoles.

I also like Corsair’s attention to detail with the matching black screw on the black model. The only thing left is a white PCB on the white model. Though to be fair, in most cases, the SSD won’t even be visible enough to discern such details.

I know, I know. Who cares what it looks like under the hood? You just want to know what performance you’ll get out of it. The brand claims up to 6,200MB/s write for the 1TB model and 6,500MB/s for the 2TB, alongside 7,000MB/s read speed for both. Regarding 4KB random write, we have up to 1 million on the 1TB and 1.2M on the 2TB, with 1M read IOPS on both capacities. These are excellent numbers, pushing the Gen 4 M.2 interface to its limits.

The MP600 Elite lineup is fairly close to Samsung’s 990 Pro SSDs, which are just a smidgen faster and more expensive. The drive uses HMB instead of a DRAM cache, which may cause it to slow down quicker than its competition during sustained writing. As usual, we can’t tell you for sure without reviewing for ourselves.
