AMD has opened pre-orders for its upcoming GPU-less processor in the US. You can secure your own Ryzen 7 8700F through Amazon today, including a bundled box cooler.
Scheduled for a May 14 release, Ryzen 7 8700F is ready to pre-order on Amazon US. For $299.99 you can get an eight-core/16-thread Zen 4 CPU that touts a 4.1GHz base and 5.0GHz boost clock. Though using the same monolithic design as the Ryzen 7 8700G with 8MB of L2 and 16MB of L3 caches, the Ryzen 7 8700F doesn’t feature any graphic capabilities since its iGPU is disabled.
Meanwhile, the Ryzen 5 8400F has yet to show up at the retail giant. According to a picture posted by @momomo_us, this one will sit at $189.99. For this price, you’ll get a six-core/12-thread chip with a 4.2GHz base and 4.7GHz boost clock, rocking 6MB of L2 alongside 16MB of L3 caches. Once more, the iGPU is non-functional. If this is true, it’s not the best deal on this six-core part.
Both models share a similar 65W TDP and support for DDR5-5200 RAM, though in reality, you can expect around 90W power consumption and support for DDR5-6000. It also seems that AMD will bundle 8700F and, presumably, 8400F CPUs with a Wraith cooler. This is a nice enough addition, even if its cooling performance won’t top any charts.
Now, while pricing is as we expect, it’s not the greatest. For the time being, there’s a fantastic Ryzen 9 7900X3D deal, which currently costs $329. For a relatively mere $30 more, you get access to AMD’s 3D V-Cache, which offers a double-digit performance uplift in lots of different games and four extra cores. Even if you don’t plan to use these features right now, the extra headroom has you covered for the future. When prices return to normal, 8700F will once again become worth considering. For now, though, it’s not worth missing out on that deal.
