Eagerly anticipating the Alienware QD-OLED ultrawide first teased at the start of the year? We’ve good news as the display, now officially dubbed AW3423DW, is aiming to make its way into your gaming setup as soon as March 29 with a price tag of $1,299.
Using Samsung’s QD-OLED technology, the monitor features a 34in 1800R curved panel capable of refresh rates of up to 175Hz. For all you Nvidia enthusiasts out there, it ultilises Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate to pair perfectly with an RTX graphics card.
Couple that with a 0.1 ms GTG response time and screen resolution of 3440×1440, with a claim of 99.3 per cent of the DCI-P3 and 149 per cent sRGB colour space. This appeals to gamers and content creators alike who often must compromise between a colour corrective, or high refresh rate display. Peak brightness is rated at 1,000nits and the panel’s inky blacks are reflected in newfangled DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification.
What is QD-OLED technology and why should I care?
Quantum Dot Organic Light Emitting Diode essentially refers to a blue organic light (OLED) being passed through a Quantum Dot (QD) filter, this allows for better saturation not found in regular OLED panels, enabling richer more vibrant colours while still maintaining the dark inky blacks OLED is known for. Samsung has invested over $11 billion dollars in research and development of QD-OLED production as the technology reduces material and production costs compared to OLED, and has long been touted as the next big innovation in TV technology.
As the world’s first Quantum Dot OLED gaming monitor, Alienware’s AW3423DW price tag isn’t as lofty as many may have feared. At the very least a $1,299 starting point gives us an inkling of what future products may cost using this technology, and we fully expect rival players to launch equivalents in the months ahead.
