Philips gives its superwide a deal as big as the QD-OLED monitor

That's a lot of screen.

Now that November’s here, we’re firmly entrenched in the month of discounts. You don’t even need to wait for Black Friday itself for the most coveted deals, as plenty of products have already slashed prices. Take this Philips Evnia 49M2C8900L QD-OLED gaming monitor as a prime example.

With 22% off, you can currently get the superwide for £679.97 on Amazon UK. The price drop undercuts its previous best by £20, leading to its lowest price to date. Keep in mind that the previous savings were only around for a week before shooting right back up, so you don’t have too long to grab this limited-time deal.

Experience luxurious gaming with this monitor’s colourful QD OLED display, incredible DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 certification, and booming DTS Sound speakers.

With the introduction of the 240Hz variant, Philips managed to keep the cost of this massive gaming monitor down by sticking with a 144Hz refresh rate. By all metrics, this still offers incredibly smooth visuals, particularly considering it stretches over a whopping 49in screen.

Boasting a 5K DQHD resolution, it’s essentially 1440p displays in one, cutting out that intrusive bezel between them. Naturally, some games won’t support the 32:9 aspect ratio, but the ones that do will blow your mind. It’s either extra immersion with fantastically vibrant colours surrounding you in single-player games like Horizon Zero Dawn: Remastered, or an advantage with additional peripheral vision in FPS games like Rainbow Six Siege.

Pair this with staples like 0.03ms grey-to-grey response times typical of OLED monitors, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to keep the screen from tearing, and a near-infinite 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and this is a gaming powerhouse. DisplayHDR True Black 400 certified enhances high-dynamic range content, too.

Philips says you’ll get 99% DCI-P3 gamut coverage minimum and an average of 125.2% AdobeRGB, making this a particularly colourful display. QD-OLED goes a long way to enhance this with its blue layer, particularly when situated in a darker room where the brightness can flourish.

I don’t tend to use the extra settings, like on-screen crosshairs or counters, but there is a zoom feature that some might consider cheating in competitive games. Essentially, this takes the centre of your screen and blows it up so you can see much further. Since it doesn’t alter your mouse sensitivity, your mileage may vary, but it’s nice to have and not need than the other way around.

Since Evnia 49M2C8900L takes up a good portion of the desk, it houses four built-in 7.5W speakers to save space. This pairs with Philips Ambiglow backlighting that can synchronise with audio to illuminate the wall behind you. Of course, you can sync it to the visuals instead or go for a static colour, giving you plenty of options to personalise your system. It’s something I praised on Philips Evnia 27M2N8500 and Philips Evnia 34M2C6500.

Few QD-OLED monitors offer the same value as Philips even without magnificent reductions like this one. The sale sticker is the cherry on top and well worth trying out for yourself. If you’re not happy, Amazon gives you 30 days from purchase to send it back for a full refund.
