AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D has cropped up in the Factorio benchmark database ahead of its release. The upcoming flagship shows an impressive performance uplift against its predecessor.
Using the 75th percentile, Ryzen 9 9950X3D delivers 655UPS (updates per second), putting it 64% above its predecessor 7950X3D, which racked 399UPS in its largest pool of results. Interestingly, this gap shrinks to 18% against the newest 3D V-Cache chip (Ryzen 7 9800X3D), which managed 553 UPS on average.
While we could attribute such a large success to its higher core count when compared to the 9800X3D, its leap over 7950X3D is more puzzling. Higher frequencies could play a role, not to forget the potential of overclocking, but that still doesn’t seem enough to account for such a whopping gap unless we are talking about extreme overclocking.
Results vary depending on CPU clocks and memory speed/timings, but the stark difference is down to 9950X3D’s single entry, which likely skews towards the higher end of its ability. Compare this to 7950X3D’s top-end 458 and 471 scores, and we see a much more believable 43% and 39% leap, respectively. Still much higher than 9800X3D’s 16.8% improvement over 7800X3D, but not out of this realm.
As always, take these numbers with a pinch of salt until more tests crop up. Only then will we see how it affects its average performance and whether there’s an ace up its sleeve.
With the gaming champion out in the form of 9800X3D, it’s time to look forward towards the next products in line, i.e. Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Though mainly targeting professionals and content creators with their higher core counts, they may also be good for gamers if the results we see today spread to gaming, too. Until then, the 9800X3D and 7800X3D will scratch that itch.
AMD should announce Ryzen 9 9950X3D at CES 2025, followed by a launch shortly after. Credit where it’s due, 9800X3D keeps its price point in check, but you can expect to pay a premium for the pleasure of owning a 9950X3D if history repeats itself. We will keep you informed as new leaks emerge.
