AMD denies Radeon RX 9070 XT MSRP rumours but won’t confirm final pricing yet

$899 is out for Radeon RX 9000 Series, instilling hopes of a more a more affordable price point from AMD.

The tale of the Radeon RX 9000 Series launch grows in the telling, as AMD has swiftly responded to recent rumours concerning the price of its prospective graphics cards. Sadly, the company’s communications don’t extend past shutting down whispers with any notion of an official word relegated to the nebulous realms of the future.

In an X post, AMD’s Frank Azor responded to recent claims that Radeon RX 9070 Series pricing could have been close to GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. More specifically, Azor categorically denies that an $899 starting price point was ever a part of the company’s plans.

Naturally, this leaves potential buyers with the question of: “well, how much are they?” In response to such queries, Azor merely confirmed that more news would be forthcoming. As a reminder, Radeon RX 9000 Series will launch in March. Prior to release, I expect AMD will follow through on its plans to throw an event specifically for the graphics cards following their omission from the company’s CES 2025 keynote. Expect more details then.

There’s little reason to distrust Azor’s word regarding Radeon RX 9000 Series pricing. However, it doesn’t put to rest rumours that price pressure from Nvidia was partly to blame for this unexpected change in launch plans. At least the wait should be worthwhile as AMD takes this extra time to increase FSR 4 support in games prior to release through driver updates or natively.

I sincerely hope prior rumours of a $479 price tag for Radeon RX 9070 Series hold water, with RX 9060 Series cards naturally costing even less. This would allow AMD to undercut all of Nvidia’s confirmed GeForce RTX 50 Series offerings and should leave its rival with little wriggle room for 60 class GPUs.

Until then, we have graphics card goliaths GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 to contend with. Both are due to arrive January 30 and you can expect the Club386 verdict on the latter in due course.
