AMD dominates CPU sales, leaving Intel with nothing but breadcrumbs

There's seemingly no stopping AMD's dominance in Germany, as its AM5 and AM4 platforms smash LGA1700 and LGA1851.

Latest sales statistics from German retailer MindFactory show AMD dominating the desktop CPU space, leaving Intel with a single-digit share. A combination of long-standing platform support and demand for 3D V-Cache is seemingly drawing buyers to Team Red, rather than than Blue.

According MindFactory sales data collated by TechEpiphanyYT, out of 25,625 sold CPUs in January 2025, AMD accounts for 23,615 (92.16%) units, i.e. 92.16% of total sales. This leaves Intel with a measly 2,010 (7.84%) units.

That’s not all, as Team Red also beats its rival in selling price with an average of €352 against €290. Note that this doesn’t mean AMD’s chips are more expensive, but rather that users are willing to go for higher models be it due to performance or value.

A great example of this is AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D which continues to sell like hot cakes, emerging as the retailer’s best-selling CPU with 8,390 units finding owners. Intel’s top-selling CPU on the other hand is the Core i5-14600KF with 150 units sold. This isn’t surprising seeing how Intel’s latest €665,89 flagship, Core Ultra 9 285K, struggles in gaming against this €579 Ryzen 9800X3D.

If this wasn’t already impressive enough, Ryzen 7 9800X3D makes up 46% of all AM5 sales via MindFactory. This figure jumps up to 87% when counting Zen 5 chips alone.

Speaking of, AM5 motherboards are also very popular among the retailer’s customers securing 18,410 (71.84%) units of total sales. This is likely the result of AMD’s great platform support, ensuring an upgrade path at no extra cost. Heck even the eight-year-old AM4 platform just recently got new CPU releases. Thus, users have confidence in seeing AM5 go past 2027. Conversely, Intel’s LGA 1700 however did poorly, selling only 1,745 (6.81%), with AM4 surpassing it with 5,205 units (20.31%).

In total, AMD generated €8,300,674 in sales, accounting for 93.45% of the revenue share, heavily contrasting with Intel’s €581,959 which barely moves the needle at 6.55%. It’s important to remember that this is just one retailer that operates in a single region but I’m confident you’ll find similar scenes elsewhere.
