Arctic has announced new, tiny blowers dubbed the ‘P9’ series. These 92mm fans are designed with NAS and SFF machines in mind.
The P9 lineup consists of four models, P9 PWM PST CO, P9 PWM PST, P9 Silent, and P9 Max. All models are 92mm wide and 25mm thick with 82.5mm between the screw holes. The fans come with nothing else but their screws which should bring their cost down, even for such a nice fan size.
P9 PWM PST CO
The P9 PWM PST CO is the only fan out of the bunch featuring dual ball bearings. This should give it a longer lifespan thanks to the low friction between bearing surfaces. However, because of that, this model will likely be more expensive than the rest of the lineup.
Regarding performance, Artic claims 38.83cfm of airflow and 3.12mmH2O of static pressure, with rotation speeds between 200 and 3,000rpm, controllable via PWM signalling.
The power cable is 400mm long with an extra 80mm daisy-chainable 4-pin header. Though don’t forget to check your motherboard’s manual for maximum power handling before hooking multiple fans to each other.
P9 PWM PST
P9 PWM PST is almost identical to P9 PWM PST CO. It offers the same 38.83cfm of airflow and 3.12mmH2O of static pressure, with up to 3,000rpm PWM speed control. Same for the 400mm+80mm daisy-chainable cable. The only difference is the fan bearing.
Here, Arctic swaps the dual ball bearings for the widely used and generally less expensive fluid dynamic bearing. While this type of bearing is less resistant to wear, they tend to be more silent. This could make it the ideal choice if you plan to use it on a device that sits near you.
P9 Silent
If low noise is a priority for you, then the P9 Silent is the one you need. Its maximum 1,900rpm is lower than its siblings, but it still manages to deliver solid airflow (23.96cfm) and static pressure (1.32mmH2O). As you may have guessed, this one is also rocking fluid dynamic bearings but this version also forgoes PWM control or daisy-chainable cables.
P9 Max
Lastly, we have the P9 Max, the fastest and most performant of the bunch. Rated for up to 58.25cfm of airflow and 6.17mmH2O of static pressure, this model should be perfect for a home server. Once more we find fluid dynamic bearings and a non-daisy-chainable cable, but the PWM speed control ranges from 450 to 4,300rpm.
Note however that unlike the other P9, this one requires 0.34A to drive, translating into into 4W of power draw at 12V. So double check your motherboard or fan hub specs to avoid overloading.
Though Arctic hasn’t shared pricing yet, looking at previous fan models, we expect these to retail around $10 each. As for the warranty, the brand is backing these for six years, giving you peace of mind.
