GeForce RTX 5060 Ti leak claims Nvidia will launch 16GB models first followed by 8GB

16GB takes priority for GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with a more robust memory configuration hopefully alleviating potential performance pitfalls of the past.

Nvidia still hasn’t confirmed the existence of GeForce RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards but that hasn’t stopped rumourmongers sharing plenty of details about it. An avalanche of alleged information on the GPU has recently come to light, including a potential release order as well as several specifications.

According to WCCFTech, Nvidia plans to launch GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of VRAM in March, followed by an 8GB variant in April. Rumours of two SKUs with varying amounts came to light earlier this year. However, this development is notable as it indicates Nvidia won’t follow the same strategy it adopted for RTX 4060 Ti, namely launching the lower capacity graphics card first.

The outlet also shares details about GeForce RTX 5060 Ti’s memory configuration. The card will apparently mirror its predecessor with a 128-bit interface. However, it will boast faster GDDR7 modules which could run at up to 28Gb/s, like those found on all other RTX 50 Series models bar RTX 5080. This would give the GPU a large and welcome generational upgrade in terms of bandwidth, rising from 288GB/s to 448GB/s.

Finally, a word on power consumption. GeForce RTX 5060 Ti will arrive with a TBP of 180W, up 15W gen-on-gen. Contrary to prior whispers, WCCFTech claims that models will feature a mix of 12V2x6 and 8-pin PCIe power connectors with any potential Founders Edition likely using the former.

If these claims are accurate, these specifications will inform the design of GeForce RTX 5060 too. Unfortunately, it seems that the problems that come part and parcel with 8GB memory buffers, as made plain in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, could be here to stay for one generation more.

Here’s hoping that Radeon RX 9060 Series shares more in common with Arc B580 than Nvidia’s entry-level cards, namely adopting a 12GB buffer over 8GB. AMD plans to reveal more about its next-generation pixel pushers imminently but all signs point to a focus on RX 9070 offerings only.
