AMD may have more powerful Ryzen AI 300 series chips in store

And this... is to go even further beyond!

AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors against a background of streaks of light

Ryzen AI 300 series processors are still fresh on the scene, but AMD could be planning a lineup changes already. The good news for gamers is that the company apparently has its eyes set upward, creating more powerful SKUs. If true, the performance ceiling for Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 architectures on laptops and more may soon rise.

For the moment, Ryzen AI 300 series rules the roost that is the mobile space. Even with Meteor Lake providing some competition, Team Red’s chips frequently come out on top as the best CPUs. However, with Lunar Lake could change things. Understandably keen to maintain its position, rumours suggest AMD is cooking up something “big.”

According to Weibo user 金猪升级包 (a.k.a. Golden Pig), Ryzen 9 HX 370 “is not the limit of the name.” Somewhat cryptically, they claim “there is also big, literally ‘big’.” While this may sound odd, Golden Pig has been on the money regarding previous AMD leaks as Videocardz points out. Nonetheless, like all rumours and leaks, we should digest the above with a pinch of salt.

We already know AMD is working on powerful Strix Halo APUs to succeed its existing Strix Point chips. However, it seems Golden Ping is referring to new additions to the latter processor family. It’s unclear how these “big” processors will manifest, but more Zen 5 CPU cores seems like the safest bet. After all, last generation’s Ryzen 9 8945HS sports 16 cores, whereas Ryzen 9 HX 370 only has 12.

As for when these more powerful SKUs will emerge, October seems like the earliest possible candidate. AMD is strangely holding back Ryzen AI 300 series stock for mini PCs and handhelds until then. This is our most optimistic guestimate, however. Erring on the side of caution, we’d point to CES 2025 where AMD should also reveal RDNA 4 GPUs.

More models mean more choice, something everyone should be able to get behind. Speaking of which, Ryzen 9 9950X & Ryzen 9 9900X desktop processors arrive imminently. We’ll have reviews for both chips shortly. Check out our Ryzen 7 9700X & Ryzen 5 9600X review in the meantime.
