AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors aren’t due to arrive until July, but third-party performance benchmarks are already here. More specifically, someone’s tested the mettle of Radeon 890M in Geekbench 6. We knew the RDNA 3.5 iGPU would be fast but its scores compared to some desktop graphics cards may surprise.
Now, to temper expectations, Radeon 890M won’t compete with the best graphics cards of today. What it will do, though, is push visual performance in handhelds and laptops. During its Computex keynote, AMD recently showed how it claims the iGPU will perform on Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Naturally, RDNA 3.5 looked great. However, these Geekbench 6 results are the first since the reveal, devoid of any influence from Team Red.
As shared by BenchLeaks, Geekbench 6 benchmarks for Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 are online for all to see. The listing is for a ‘170’ SKU but this is just a branding hangover following a sudden change by AMD. This same technicality applies to the Radeon 880M also listed, which is actually an 890M. With that confusion addressed, let’s dive into the details.
Radeon 890M achieves an OpenCL score of 41,995 in Geekbench 6. Thanks to Videocardz, we can quickly compare this against previous iGPUs and older desktop graphics cards. On the former front, RDNA 3.5 sees a whopping 39% improvement versus the RDNA 3 powered Radeon 780M (30,151). Meanwhile, on the latter, this AMD chip is competing with Radeon RX 480 (42,732) and GeForce GTX 1650 Ti (44,561).
Of course, synthetic benchmarks only offer a general estimate of graphics performance. Impressive as these Geekbench 6 results are, I’m looking forward to testing Radeon 890M in games and other applications. Better still, seeing the iGPU in action in a gaming handheld rather than a creative laptop like ProArt 16.
