Nvidia has already made the jump to PCIe Gen 5 interfaces with GeForce RTX 5090 and subsequent graphics cards, but questions remain about AMD’s plans for Radeon RX 9000 Series. Despite prior rumours to the contrary, it appears that the likes of RX 9070 XT and its siblings will also make the transition to the latest, fastest standard.

X user momomo_us unearthed a Micro Center listing for a PowerColor Radeon RX 9070 XT that contained references to PCIe Gen 5. While the product page is no longer available, they were able to capture a screenshot of it as shown in the post above.
Earlier rumours pointed to AMD sticking with a PCIe Gen 4 interface, continuing with manufacturing trends it began with Radeon RX 5000 Series graphics cards in 2019. Given that the company is skipping 12V-2×6 connectors with Radeon RX 9000 Series in favour of tried-and-tested PCIe 8-pin headers, it wasn’t much of a reach to suggest the brand would play it safe elsewhere in its pixel pusher design.
If AMD does adopt PCIe Gen 5 interfaces with Radeon RX 9000 Series, there’s a chance its graphics cards could unfortunately exhibit the same issues exhibited by GeForce RTX 50 Series. Numerous users, Club386 included, are experiencing problems such as black screens and more which appear to stem from the new standard as forcing motherboards to run at Gen 4 speeds boosts stability.
Nothing’s confirmed until AMD says so and you can expect an official word on all things Radeon RX 9000 Series come February 28, during the company’s official reveal event. Before then, though, Nvidia will launch GeForce RTX 5070 Ti on February 20 which could potentially set the performance bar the likes of RX 9070 XT will need to meet or exceed to be competitive.
If you’re following Club386 on Google News, you’ll be notified as soon as the site publishes its reviews for Radeon RX 9070 XT and its competitors. The team has plenty of coverage in the works for these launches and I look forward to sharing all of it with you in due course.
