Radeon RX 9060 XT is taking shape as fresh leaks begin to peel its memory configurations. Following prior whispers that the card would be available in 16GB and 8GB capacities, we now know how AMD plans to make the card more affordable relative to its siblings in addition to presumably weaker GPUs.
Folks at VideoCardz managed to obtain information from board partners confirming some specs of Radeon RX 9060 XT. Most pertinent of all was memory bus width and clock, which the outlet claims will top out at 128-bit and 20Gb/s, respectively.
These specifications would effectively halve bandwidth on Radeon RX 9060 XT relative to RX 9070 Series, at 320GB/s. It could also put it at a disadvantage to competitors, as GeForce RTX 5060 Ti could offer throughput of 448GB/s despite using the same 128-bit bus thanks to its potential 28Gb/s GDDR7 memory modules.
Of course, what matters is most is GPU horsepower. While Radeon RX 9060 XT will use an RDNA 4 GPU, AMD hasn’t revealed much else about its lower-spec Navi chip. The company did estimate performance somewhere in the region of RX 7800 XT and 7600 XT, however.
Personally, I’d happily pay a small premium for a larger buffer size. The limitations of 8GB VRAM capacities are becoming impossible to ignore, and the sooner the industry moves towards 12GB or even 16GB as standard on lower-end models the better. Of course, this is all providing that the price is right. More specifically, I wouldn’t entertain a $100 premium like with GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.
AMD hasn’t commented when it plans to reveal or launch Radeon RX 9060 XT beyond a broad “next quarter” window. As such, expect it to pop up in some manner between April and June with some rumours suggesting it could hit the scene sooner rather than later. Either way, it’s great to see potential competition brewing in the budget space again.
