AMD Radeon RX 9070 clock speeds leak points to fast frequencies

Frequencies appear much higher on Radeon RX 9070 than prior generation cards via a manufacturer overlock.

More details on the likely specifications for Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are emerging by the day, with the latest leak revealing the latter card’s clock speeds. Excitingly, it seems that AMD may have found room to significantly boost the operating frequencies of its upcoming pixel pushers relative to their predecessors.

X user momomo_us spotted a store listing for an XFX Swift Radeon RX 9070 OC which disclosed base, game, and boost clock for the graphics card. As a reminder, the latter two frequencies describe typical operating frequencies in games and maximum speed potential, respectively.

This particular Radeon RX 9070 offers a base clock of 1,440MHz, rising to 2,210MHz for game clock, and topping out at 2,700MHz for boost clock. It’s important to note that these aren’t reference frequencies as XFX has overclocked the card from the factory. However, the numbers here likely aren’t much higher. For reference, Radeon RX 9070 XT has appeared in GPU-Z rocking a 2,570MHz game clock and 3,100MHz boost clock.

Comparing these speeds to Radeon RX 7000 Series frequencies, boost clocks are higher than all but Radeon RX 7600 XT (2,755MHz). Of course, this only one part of the specifications puzzle as the likes of stream processors and compute units remain unknown.

Part and parcel with these specifications are some pictures of XFX Radeon RX 9070 Swift and Quick Silver cards, including their box art. Both feature a triple-fan cooler with a heatsink spanning their entire length. Like many designs nowadays, these models will include a flow-through area on the back to improve thermals. Quick Silver is my favourite of the two as its frame reminds me of the Batmobile for some reason.

Another view of the card also further cements that Radeon RX 9070 and XT will feature 8-pin PCIe connectors. No stress from 12V2x6 here.

AMD will reveal further details on Radeon RX 9070 and XT on February 28 during a livestream event dedicated exclusively to the graphics cards. Rumours claim that reviews should follow suit shortly after on March 5, the same day GeForce RTX 5070 launches.

Given GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is a decent if not ground-breaking card, I’m hopeful AMD can provide something more compelling with its Radeon RX 9070 Series.
