AMD Radeon RX 9070 price leak suggests sub-$700 MSRP

Sub-$700 is a good starting point but that still leaves plenty of room for error in AMD's pricing of Radeon RX 9070 XT.

AMD plans to reveal more about its Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards later this week, likely sharing pricing information among other details for both models. While there’s still no exact number to point to, slides from an alleged presentation could point to a potential price range.

According to the slides, shared by Videocardz, AMD highlights that “85% [of] gamers buy GPUs <$700.” This factoid falls under a ‘More Accessible’ header, on a slide entitled ‘Focusing on what Gamers want’. It’s hard not to read this and think the brand isn’t targeting a sub-$700 MSRP for Radeon RX 9070 XT.

Worst case scenario, AMD launches Radeon RX 9070 XT at $699.99. However, I’m hopeful that the company will launch closer to $649.99 at most, undercutting Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5070 Ti by a welcome margin. However, this could create problems for Radeon RX 9070, as launching below RTX 5070 ($549) doesn’t seem possible given these guesses.

There’s also the matter of lingering Radeon RX 7000 Series stock. Over on Amazon, you’ll find the likes of RX 7900 XT for as little as $680. Its larger pool of VRAM is tempting but it’s likely the that architectural advantages and improvements of RDNA 4 will create a performance gap between RX 9070 XT. I’m particularly keen to see how AMD’s new ray tracing accelerators shape up.

Expect an official word from AMD come February 28 during its Radeon RX 9000 Series livestream event. Recent rumours suggest RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 will launch on March 6, leaving little time to announce any pricing after the fact. So, I expect to hear an MSRP come Friday.

Given the parade of problems Nvidia is currently facing with its GeForce RTX 50 Series, from hardware defects to low availability, AMD couldn’t ask for a better chance to claw back market share from its rival. However, there’s still every chance the company could repeat prior mistakes like its Radeon RX 7900 XTX price points.
