AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT should arrive by January 2025

Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 are due to hit the scene before Chinese New Year, likely arriving alongside plenty of competition from GeForce RTX 50 Series.

AMD wants you to prepare your wallet post-haste, as leaks suggest you won’t need to wait long after its CES 2025 announcement to get your hands on its latest graphics card. Not wanting to waste any time, it appears the company plans to launch Radeon RX 9070 XT shortly after its press conference. There’s also further news concerning its power cables and consumption which should please anyone with older PSUs.

According to Benchlife, both Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 will hit store shelves at the end of January 2025, falling short of providing an exact date but highlighting it’ll be before Chinese New Year (January 29, 2025). Should this and prior rumours hold true, the Navi 48 Radeon 9000 (formerly 8000) graphics cards will scrap with almost every member of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 50 Series. Hopefully Navi 44 will quickly follow to aid Team Red’s chances, but there’s no sign just yet.

The outlet also claims that Radeon RX 9070 XT’s TBP (Total Board Power) will exceed 300W. Such power consumption would put it in the company of Radeon RX 7900 XT which has a 315W TBP. Relative to its potential competition, however, it’d sip more watts from the wall than GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with its 300W TDP.

This lowly TBP doesn’t even come close to saturating the 600W a 12V-2×6 power connector can deliver. With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that AMD isn’t mandating its usage on Radeon RX 9070 XT, allowing board partners to continue using tried-and-tested PCIe eight-pins. This doesn’t mean models featuring the newer header won’t appear, but I would expect them to be the exception rather than the rule.

It’s still difficult to gauge the potential success of Radeon RX 9070 XT, particularly given a lack of pricing and performance estimates. That said, its alleged 16GB VRAM buffer does give me hope. If AMD can craft a graphics card similar in value to Radeon RX 7800 XT or Radeon RX 7900 GRE, then I’d wager it’s on to a midrange winner. Both the aforementioned pixel pushers were great offerings but faced an uphill battle thanks to their relatively late arrival to market, so I’m glad we won’t see that problem repeat here.

We’ll learn more about Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 at CES 2025, come January 6 at 7PM (GMT). Club386 will be in Las Vegas for the show, so stay tuned for any and all announcements.
