Nvidia will shoot first but AMD aims to have the last laugh, as an alleged release date for Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 emerges. If rumours hold true, Team Red is leaving its rival little time to enjoy the spotlight as it plans to launch its next-generation graphics cards the very next day after GeForce RTX 5070.
According to Benchlife, Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 will hit the streets on Thursday, March 6. AMD is yet to confirm any release plans beyond an ‘early March’ launch window but the manufacturer should share a more specific date during its Radeon RX 9000 Series event later this month.
This places it smack-bang after Nvidia’s launch for GeForce RTX 5070 on Wednesday, March 5. The manufacturer initially planned to release the graphics card in February, alongside RTX 5070 Ti. However, for reasons unbeknownst to all but Team Green, it should now arrive alongside Radeon RX 9070 XT.
It’s difficult to assess which pixel pusher will come out on top in this bout given how little AMD has shared about Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070. By contrast, Nvidia has revealed almost all there is to know about GeForce RTX 5070, with deeper performance analysis remaining as the only stone left unturned.
Of course, these graphics cards will not exist in isolation of one another. Important as generational improvements are in determining the worth of Radeon RX 9070 XT and GeForce RTX 5070, they do not supersede value comparisons to their rivals. In the latter regard, AMD could hold a distinct advantage thanks to its offering of a 16GB frame buffer to Nvidia’s smaller, albeit faster, 12GB.
That’s not forgetting the fact that AMD is finally employing machine learning into its upscaling suite via FSR 4, debuting alongside Radeon RX 9070 XT and its siblings. This should help plug the gap between Team Red’s tech and DLSS 4 but the proof shall be in the performance and image quality which remain unknowns for now.
You can expect reviews of Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 in due course, alongside GeForce RTX 5070. The Club386 team is already busy at work benchmarking points of comparison for these graphics cards.
