Following a flood of rumours, AMD has officially unveiled Radeon RX 9070 GRE. As part of its reveal, Team Red has shared specifications and performance estimates for the graphics card. It’s also available to pre-order right now but you’ll need to head further afield than usual to secure one for your system.
For the moment, Radeon RX 9070 GRE is exclusive to the Chinese market. This release strategy mirrors its predecessor, Radeon RX 7900 GRE, but there’s no notion of it making its way to other regions for the moment. Should AMD eventually ship the card to the other countries, it could come at the expense of Radeon RX 9070.

Radeon RX 9070 GRE uses the same Navi 48 GPU as other model in its family, namely Navi 48. However, AMD has made several cutbacks to the die that make it less powerful than Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. Team Red has trimmed back compute units, reducing stream processors in the process as well as AI and RT accelerators, and nerfs the card’s memory configuration.
Unlike its the rest of the RX 9070 Series, AMD equips Radeon RX 9070 GRE with 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM, whose modules run at 18Gb/s, riding on a 192-bit bus. As a result, the card’s bandwidth is far lower at 432GB/s relative to the 640GB/s of its siblings. That’s not forgetting that its capacity will hamper its ability to handle games at higher resolutions in addition to demanding effects like ray tracing.
On its website AMD claims Radeon RX 9070 GRE is “30% faster than RX 7900 GRE on average in over 6 games,” running at native QHD and ‘Ultra’ settings. In a wider spread of benchmarks, the brand said RX 9070 is 38% faster on average, creating a potential performance gap of around 8% between the two RDNA 4 cards. The true difference between each pixel pusher should come to light soon as models make their way into the hands of users.
AMD is launching Radeon RX 9070 GRE in China for 4,199 RMB, which translates to around $576 at the time of writing. Releasing the card at that price in the United States makes no sense whatsoever, as it’s less-powerful but more-expensive than RX 9070. As such, we could see Team Red launch it at a more affordable cost much.
Personally, I’m more interested in seeing Radeon RX 9070 prices fall to around $499 to turn the heat up on Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070. Whether AMD agrees is anyone’s guess for the moment, but the brand apparently won’t bring Radeon RX 9070 GRE to other markets until Q4 2025 at the earliest if rumours hold true.
For the moment, Radeon RX 9060 XT should hold attentions ahead of its clash with Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060.
