AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D prices mirror prior generation CPUs

Both Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D may not cost any more than their predecessors, unlike 9800X3D.

With their release fast approaching, the cost of Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D may have finally come to light thanks to Newegg. The US retailer published and subsequently removed listings for both processors that included familiar price tags.

Newegg’s listings of Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D suggest they will cost $699.99 and $599.99, respectively. These prices popped up on the PCPartPicker pages for the processors, capturing the information from the US retailer’s listings before their removal.

Those in the know will remember that AMD charged the exact same price for its prior generation Ryzen 9 X3D CPUs, namely 7950X3D and 7900X3D. While I’d prefer prices to lower, I’m at least glad to see them remain static when 9800X3D is $30 more expensive than 7800X3D.

Of course, these could be placeholder prices ahead of AMD’s official launch for Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D. Expect to hear an official word from the manufacturer before April, perhaps imminently, as the processors should hit store shelves before Q1 2025 is out.

These processors should deliver sizeable gains over their predecessors thanks to AMD’s Zen 5 CPU architecture, like their non-X3D counterparts. However, it’s AMD’s shift in placement of 3D V-Cache that should net the largest improvements as is the case with Ryzen 7 9800X3D. That’s not forgetting potentially untapped performance unlocked via overclocking.

However, don’t expect Ryzen 9 9950X3D or 9900X3D to knock 9800X3D from its gaming throne. By AMD’s own admission, these chips should be comparable rather than superior to current stock. This isn’t too surprising given that the processors only have one 3D V-Cache CCD under their belts. What truly matters is how favourably it stacks up to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K and Core i9-14900K.

Club386 recently pit Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 9800X3D against one another running a GeForce RTX 5090, and I strongly recommend giving it a read to grasp where the current processor hierarchy stands. That is, of course, until Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D show face.
