Since their reveal at CES 2025, consumers are no closer to knowing when Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D will hit the streets past AMD’s window of ‘Q1 2025’. While AMD remains cagey about its release plans, motherboard manufacturers like ASRock are now ready for the launch perhaps indicating that the CPUs are just around the corner.
ASRock has recently updated its ‘CPU Support List’ for AM5 motherboards to include Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D. Whether you’re planning to upgrade to the 3D V-Cache CPUs or not, you can download the latest BIOS containing support for them right now.
Using BIOS versions 3.15 and 3.16, the likes of X870E Taichi, X870E Taichi Lite, X870 Steel Legend WiFi, and B650E Taichi Lite, just to name a few, are now compatible with Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D. Note that the brand is also working on a newer BIOS update – currently in Beta – based on the AGESA 1.2.0.3a microcode. Since this one requires a chipset driver update too, I wonder if it brings further optimisation to these dual CCD (Core Complex Die) processors.
Updates like these typically occur closer to the launch of the processors in question, perhaps pointing to Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D launching in February. However, there’s still every chance that AMD will launch its latest processors alongside its Radeon RX 9000 Series GPUs.
Sadly, there’s no word on how much Ryzen 9 9000X3D processors will cost. However, using Ryzen 9 9950X and 9900X as a yardstick, it’s likely that the 3D V-Cache siblings will cost a chunk of change more.
While Ryzen 7 9800X3D is ruler of the CPU roost for the moment, AMD reckons Ryzen 9 9950X3D will trade blows with the current champion. Two CCDs offering more cores will undoubtedly benefit production tasks but can hamper gaming performance, as was the case on Ryzen 7000X3D.
