AMD Ryzen 9000 prices leak from multiple vendors

AMD is avoiding past mistakes.

AMD Ryzen 9000 CPU.

US retailers Newegg and Best Buy have leaked AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs prices ahead of launch. The brand’s next-gen chips seem to be cheaper than their predecessors, which is good news for our wallets.

According to these listings, Ryzen 9000 and 5000 series will be priced as follows:

  • Ryzen 9 9950X at $599
  • Ryzen 9 9900X at $449
  • Ryzen 7 9700X at $359
  • Ryzen 5 9600X at $279
  • Ryzen 9 5900XT at $349
  • Ryzen 7 5800XT at $249

If correct, these prices are great as they are noticeably lower than Ryzen 7000 chips. For instance, 9950X and 9900X are $100 cheaper than 7950X and 7900X, respectively. Meanwhile, 9700X offers a reasonable $40 saving over 7700X. The least aggressive is 9600X, which is only $20 cheaper than 7600X, understandable since margins are slimmer at this range. All in all, a welcome discount that could encourage Ryzen 7000 owners to upgrade even though the generational gains aren’t groundbreaking.

As a reminder, Ryzen 9000 processors are expected to deliver around 16% IPC gains compared to Ryzen 7000 chips. A healthy bump, no doubt, just not one you’d swap a perfectly working machine for. As usual, if you’re a gamer first and foremost, you may be willing to wait a couple of months until AMD releases its 3D V-Cache enhanced variants.

Now, regarding the older AM4 platform, 5900XT and 5800XT may have a hard time attracting users at their respective prices. At $349, the 16 cores on Ryzen 9 5900XT will cost you the same as the Ryzen 5950X which recently fell to $308. Things are even worse for the eight-core Ryzen 7 5800XT since you can currently grab the equivalent 5800X for a mere $176.

While these tags may be placeholders, chances are they’re correct. After all, AMD intended to launch the CPUs today before delaying them for some reason. In any case, it won’t take long to find out as they’ll arrive in a couple of weeks when they release on August 15.
