AMD Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs are on the horizon according to Asus

The sooner the better.

Given the gaming prowess of AMD’s bolstered 3D V-Cache, it’s just a matter of time before AMD Ryzen 9000X3D becomes a reality. The question on everyone’s lips is when? According to Asus, it won’t be long, as its webpage hints the CPUs will arrive sooner rather than later.

Although there’s no mention of a release date, Asus’s website source code directly references AMD 3D V-Cache Zen 5 chips. As expected, these will join the Red Team’s Ryzen 9000 Series, potentially named Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Ryzen 9 9900X3D, and Ryzen 9 9950X3D. This is as close as we can get outside of an official announcement by AMD.

“Asus AMD X870E & X870 motherboards are designed to get the most out of AMD Ryzen™ 9000 series X3D processors and are ready for Advanced AI PCs,” reads the description. “Featuring exclusive AI technologies, PCIe® 5.0, DDR5 support with NitroPath DRAM and AEMP technologies, USB4® 40 Gbps Type-C support, WiFi 7 and EZ PC DIY designs.”

This indicates that X870 and X870E boards will support Ryzen 9000X3D out of the box without requiring any BIOS update. The brand plans at least five models: ROG Crosshair X870E Hero, ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi, TUF Gaming X870-Plus WiFi, ProArt X870E-Coreator WiFi, and Prime X870-P WiFi. All potentially feature Asus’ NitroPath DRAM and AEMP (Asus Enhanced Memory Profile). The former reduces noise interference using shorter gold pins and optimised signal pathways, while the latter allows automatic memory overclocking when the DDR5 module lacks EXPO/XMP profiles.

While this doesn’t give us anything to put in the calendar, mentioning support for these CPUs could mean that they are ready or at least advancing well. Recent delays for Ryzen 9000 had us worried that 9000X3D could miss its original September launch date. There’s a benefit in getting them out the door sooner rather than later, though, as it could combat the lukewarm reception of its latest.

In any case, these X3D chips will likely pack an extra 64MB of L3 cache on top of the 32MB on the 9600X and 9700X and 64MB on the 9900X and 9950X. That said, we don’t know if AMD will release lower-end models at the same time or wait as it did with the Ryzen 5 7600X3D, which just got a rumour launch date.
