AMD’s “aggressive” Radeon RX 9000 pricing takes aim at its own GPUs and Nvidia

In preparation for Radeon RX 9000 Series launch, AMD has apparently ceased production of RX 7800 XT earlier than anticipated, potentially hinting at price points for its new graphics cards.

While AMD has offered a passing glance at its Radeon RX 9000 Series, the company is still yet to reveal many key details about its upcoming graphics cards. Price remains one such mystery, but recent rumours suggest Team Red is adopting a welcome pricing strategy for its prospective pixel pushers.

As reported by IT Home, a leaker claims that pricing for Radeon RX 9070 XT and its siblings will be “very aggressive”. While this phrasing doesn’t indicate any potential MSRPs, it does suggest that we should expect to see AMD undercut Nvidia by a substantial margin.

Curiously, AMD has allegedly cancelled Radeon RX 7800 XT production well-ahead of schedule in preparation for RX 9000 cards. The brand similarly called time on RX 7900 GRE last year. While these two actions could just be in service of maximising attention on the likes of RX 9070 XT, they could also point to potential pricing. If so, a price range of $500-549 may be in the works.

This would make Radeon RX 9000 Series’ closest competition GeForce RTX 5070, priced at $549 and launching in February. AMD plans to launch its contenders a month later, following a rumoured launch event beforehand. The next few weeks could be very busy in terms of graphics card releases, with RTX 5060 Ti and 5060 potentially launching in the same timeframe.

It bears repeating that this isn’t an official word from AMD and graphics card pricing is literally subject to change until the very last moment. Even when final MSRPs do arrive, likely alongside performance estimations, it remains wise to temper your excitement until you can lay your eyes on reviews. Of course, you can expect the official thoughts on Radeon RX 9000 Series from Club386 in due course.

With so many releases to look forward to, not forgetting AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D, make sure you’re following Club386 on Google News in preparation.
