AOC combines gaming monitor and smart TV features into one

Perfect for limited space.

With a few notable exceptions, smart TVs and gaming monitors occupy different spaces, with one catering to couch usability and the other fulfilling the need for speed. AOC hopes to bridge the gap with its latest screen, seamlessly switching between watching your favourite shows and gaming on a PC with a single button.

Whether you have limited space for two displays or prefer to have everything within reach, including a smart assistant, AOC has you covered. With Agon Q27G4XY, you can get access to smart features such as multimedia and streaming apps via Google TV alongside specs mainly seen on gaming monitors.

To be more specific, you get access to content streaming platforms like Netflix, YouTube, and Disney+, directly on the monitor without needing a third-party setup box or dongle. This way you can jump straight into your favourite shows without having to keep your PC on. While this is not the first time we have seen such a design, as Samsung and LG are known for it, this is one of the cheapest solutions available. This means more users can afford it, and most importantly, without trading important specs for this privilege.

Talking of which, Q27G4XY packs a 27in QHD (2560×1440) VA panel, rated for 180Hz refresh rate and 1ms GtG pixel response time. Since it targets gamers too, we find support for AMD FreeSync, Nvidia G-Sync, and HDR10. While these are not bad specs by any means, they also are not the best. For instance, the lack of local dimming zones means that the HDR experience will be subpar. But hey budget displays can’t have it all, unfortunately.

Though AOC didn’t share much in terms of specs, we can expect around 3000:1 contrast and 300nits of brightness, which are typical on such displays. Same for connectivity as the brand didn’t mention the version of each port, only stating that this monitor packs one HDMI, one DisplayPort, and one USB Type-C with 65W power delivery. But regardless, this resolution and refresh combo isn’t high enough to be limited by the video input bandwidth, so you don’t have to worry about it.

Lastly, on the ergonomics side, AOC lists it does have a VESA mount alongside height and tilt adjustments for its stand. Although it doesn’t detail by how much you can adjust it, you’re pretty much guaranteed to see and hear its built-in speakers no matter where you sit.

Agon Q27G4XY is available now exclusively through Skytech Gaming for $299.99. This comes with an industry-leading four-year advance replacement warranty, including four-year zero dead pixel guarantee and one year of accidental damage coverage (one incident per monitor).
