AOC has a new portable monitor for those multi-tasking on the go

Helps you get the job done.

AOC has turned its attention toward office workers, offering a slim portable monitor. Powered via its Type-C port, this compact display aims to improve your productivity wherever you go.

16T3EA is a 15.6-inch portable monitor targeted at office tasks that don’t require exceptional colour accuracy or large real estate. It uses an FHD (1920×1080) IPS panel refreshing at 60Hz. AOC also announces a 4ms GtG response time alongside 250nits of brightness and 700:1 contrast ratio. As you can see, these specs are not groundbreaking, but they’re plenty for a portable monitor – unless you plan to participate in Excel’s world championship.

Keeping the hardware trim has its benefits. After all, the most likely scenario is that you’ll power this through your laptop battery, and lower specs save some of your charge. In this case, 16T3EA uses USB 3.2 Type-C to receive both power up to 15W via USB power delivery and a video signal through DP alt mode. That said, this monitor only takes 7W under normal operation.

AOC has also bundled an AC adapter plus a 1.8-meter cable in case you prefer to power it via other means.

Unfortunately, no HDMI or DisplayPort connections this time around, which is a bummer for old laptops. At least we do get a handy 3.5mm audio jack for private media consumption.

I see it as an excellent solution for showing clients a design or product without having to get uncomfortably close. For those who like to travel with family or friends, it could help everyone watch from the comfort of their seat.

I prefer a fixed installation, which means I’d leverage the 50x50mm VESA mount in conjunction with a monitor arm. This makes it a perfect choice for truckers needing an extra screen for maps or movie nights during those long deliveries. And thanks to its automatic pivot support, you can turn it however you like without any extra configuration.

The 16T3EA portable monitor will be available from mid-August at £149.99 MSRP, backed by a three-year warranty. While not the cheapest model with such specs, it’s among the most affordable units from reputable brands.
