AOC has announced the Agon Q27G3XMN-BK, a 27in WQHD gaming monitor featuring a Mini-LED backlight. Alongside a 180Hz refresh rate, the combo aims to deliver an impactful HDR experience without breaking the bank.
Based on a 27in QHD (2560×1440) VA panel, the Q27G3XMN-BK focuses heavily on deep blacks and punchy highlights. This is in large part thanks to its 336 dimming zones courtesy of the Mini-LED backlight. With VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification under its belt, it boasts inky blacks and up to 1000nits of peak brightness. While probably not as good as OLEDs when handling dark tones, the Mini-LED VA combo sidesteps potential pixel burning. Generally, it’s an acceptable compromise, especially at its price.
But that’s not all. AOC equips the display with a 10-bit colour depth (8-bit + FRC), 95% DCI-P3 gamut coverage, and 4000:1 static contrast. You might not notice them as much as the 180Hz refresh rate and 1ms GtG response time, but these specs certainly sound good. That said, if you’re looking for the ultimate experience, maybe check out AOC’s 45in 240Hz ultra-wide OLED gaming monitor.
You can customise the display’s parameters via the integrated buttons or AOC’s G-Menu software. The former is fine for a one-time config, while the latter is more convenient if you switch profiles a lot. Who switches profiles, you ask? Those that have one for day and one for night, for example.
Connectivity-wise, there’s nothing too fancy. You get your typical single DisplayPort 1.4 plus dual HDMI 2.0 for console gamers, alongside a lonely 3.5mm audio jack. The monitor’s PSU is integrated, simply requiring a kettle lead. We personally like having an external power brick for reparability. After all, PSU failure accounts for the majority of our monitors giving up the ghost. Still, integrated is becoming more common.
Lastly, you can adjust the Q27G3XMN-BK in height by 130mm, in tilt by 21.5°, in swivel by 30°, and in pivot by 90°. It also supports 100x100mm VESA for wall/arm mounting.
The AOC Q27G3XMN-BK will be available for purchase starting late November at £349.99 MSRP.
