Brilliant as high refresh rate displays are, they often come at a noticeable premium. However, AOC aims to challenge this norm with its new 25G4SXU gaming monitor. It has all the specifications an esports gamer could want but won’t break the bank as much you might expect.
25G4SXU is a flat 24.5in gaming monitor rocking a Fast IPS panel running at a native 1920×1080 resolution and 300Hz refresh rate, but it can overclock to 310Hz. Its response times are typical of other displays using this technology, namely 1ms GtG and 0.3ms MPRT, and are plenty-fast for competitive games.

The focus here is on refresh rate but its contrast ratio of 1,000:1 and peak brightness of 400nits make it competitive against other IPS monitors. 25G4SXU boasts a wide gamut too, covering 117% of the sRGB colour space and 90.6% of DCI-P3. It even comes with support for HDR10 content but I’d recommend sticking with SDR on account of its lack of local dimming zones. Of course, no competitive display would be complete without some form of Adaptive Sync and AOC expectedly equips with model with the tech.
The VESA mount on the back of 25G4SXU should make slotting on to monitor arms a breeze but AOC bakes in plenty of adjustment options with included stand. More specifically, the brand lists -3.5° to 21.5° tilt, 30° swivel, 90° pivot, and 130mm height modification. However you plan to lock in to a ranked match, you should find a comfortable position with this screen.

In terms of connectivity, 25G4SXU doesn’t disappoint. It arrives with a single DisplayPort 1.4 port and two HDMI 2.0 headers but you’ll want to connect to the former to achieve the monitor’s maximum refresh rate. There’s understandably no KVM switch here but the display does house four USB Type-A ports across its chassis.
You’ll be able to pick up 25G4SXU this month for a mere £199, backed by a three-year warranty.
