Despite the introduction of third and fourth-generation AirPods, these remain Apple’s top earbud. After all, why fix what’s not broken? They still feature leading active noise cancelling, complete with four different silicon tips to form an acoustic seal that prevents outside sound from interrupting your head bopping.
I regularly rely on transparency mode to listen out for traffic when I’m out and about, as it amplifies the sounds around you rather than blocking them out. Rather than simply boosting the atmosphere like alternatives from Sony or Samsung, AirPods Pro 2 shines using its H2 chip to minimise the intensity of loud noises like sirens or road works at a rate of 48,000 times per second. The same technology works hard to boost conversations and background sounds, as well as isolate your voice during phone calls.
I’m a big fan of Apple’s stem approach, as it places controls further down compared to its rivals. I’ll accidentally pause and play songs whenever I adjust my Sony WF-1000XM5 to a more comfortable fit, but AirPods Pro 2 doesn’t have the same pitfalls. Simply tap or slide the stem for playback, volume, and different listening modes. Siri is similarly intuitive with voiceless controls, letting you nod your head for yes or shake it for no when answering or rejecting calls.
As with all earbuds, AirPods Pro 2 lives and dies by its battery life. They’ll last up to 6 hours on a single charge without Spatial Audio and head tracking enabled, with the charging case adding another 24 hours on top. Five minutes of juicing up will give you an hour, so don’t sweat it if you’re caught out on a longer journey.
Fitting into the Apple ecosystem, the charging case also packs a speaker so you can use the Find My app whenever you misplace them. It comes in handy more than you might think for me. There’s no need for proprietary cables, as the USB-C port is universal, however I prefer to use Qi wireless charging with MagSafe locking it in place.
Amazon lists these as a limited time deal, and given how popular they are, I can safely say the discount won’t last long. I recommend snapping a pair up sooner rather than later.
