The new Mac Mini sent the internet into a frenzy back in November 2024, offering Apple’s latest M4 chip for an unprecedentedly low price. Just two months later, it’s kicking 2025 off with a deal nobody expected, making the small form factor PC an absolute steal.
Cast your gaze over to Amazon, and you’ll spot the 256GB model going for just $569 in the US and £569 in the UK. Bump up the storage to 512GB, and the dinky device shaves 10% off in parts of Europe, bringing the price down to €849. Understandably, these are the cheapest offers I’ve seen so far since the prebuilt still has its baby teeth, and I doubt Apple will discount it further for a good while yet. Apple Mac Mini (M4)
Get blisteringly fast performance at a price like no other with Mac Mini, featuring Apple’s unrivalled M4 silicon.
At roughly the same size as an Apple TV set top box, Mac Mini certainly fulfils the promise of its namesake. The fruity company managed to shrink the system down compared to previous generations by swapping the internal power supply for an external brick and rearranging cooling components to leverage the efficiency of its new M4 chip.
Even without going for the full-fat M4 Pro, which runs more than double the cost, the standard M4 is a powerhouse in its own right. Featuring a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 16-core NPU (neural processing unit), it makes short work of anything you throw at it, including AI workloads. Naturally, macOS isn’t the most gaming-friendly, but it’s come a long way in terms of compatibility, especially with its Wine-based Game Porting Toolkit.
One thing I certainly appreciate is the nudge up to 16GB of unified RAM. Although there are 24GB versions if you don’t mind paying a premium, it’s worth sticking with the base amount to make the most of this deal. You can always allocate your savings to a good external SSD, using its five Thunderbolt 4 ports. Shockingly, there isn’t a USB Type-A in sight, as it’s a clean sweep for USB-C connectivity.
If you’re wondering why so many Thunderbolt 4 ports, the answer is simple: they’re incredibly versatile. Each USB-C is perfectly capable of handling visuals, allowing you to connect multiple displays. The limit is roughly two 6K screens at 60Hz via Thunderbolt 4 and a third 4K at 60Hz via HDMI. Altering resolutions and refresh rates may free up bandwidth for more panels, but your mileage will vary.
Needless to say, there isn’t a general computer out there that packs more value for money, particularly with Mac Mini’s fantastic discount. As you might expect, stock is already running low, so you’ll want to be quick grabbing one. If you change your mind, you can always use Amazon’s 30-day return window to refund your purchase in full.
