If you’ve been umming and ahing over making the jump to AM5, there’s arguably never been a better time. Prices have come down tremendously since release, seeing processors like AMD Ryzen 5 8500G fall to their cheapest yet, and there’s still plenty of life left in the platform with support for years to come.

You can currently save 20% on Amazon US, nabbing Ryzen 5 8500G for a manageable $143. The same chip is also reduced in parts of Europe, with Italy touting 15% off at €137. It’s worth clicking on the buttons below to see your local deals.

AMD Ryzen 5 8500G

AMD Ryzen 5 8500G is the ultimate all-in-one Zen 4 desktop processor with AMD Radeon 740M Graphics capabilities.

As an APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), Ryzen 5 8500G features both a CPU and GPU working in tandem, designed with enough power to get you through the day. At 65W, it’s not quite as efficient as its pricey Zen 5 siblings, but you’ll save far more on this discount than you would by trimming down your electric bill.

On the CPU side, you get a six-core 12-thread processor with enough grunt to handle modest multitasking. Frequencies sit at a default 3.5GHz, ramping all the way to a 5GHz boost for when things get intense.

Integrated graphics aren’t our first choice for gaming, but the built-in Radeon 740M exceeds expectations. You can get anywhere between 30fps and 60fps on average when running games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage on Medium presets. Of course, this scales depending on the title. Starfield struggles at FHD resolution even on the lowest settings, while competitive games like CS2 zoom all the way to triple-figure frame rates. Adjust expectations and you’ll be pleasantly surprised, particularly with emulation.

Ryzen 5 8500G comes bundled with its own AMD Wraith Stealth cooler to keep it cool, saving you even more money. I’d personally recommend mounting a better air cooler, as Arctic Freezer 36 doesn’t cost much at all, particularly if you plan on gaming a lot with the chip. That said, Wraith Stealth already does an admirable job at keeping the APU below its 95°C max temps.

All in all, it’s a fantastic baseline to get your first AM5 system up and running. Compatible motherboards are similarly afforadable and you’ll be able to roll right on to Zen 6 when it lands.

Give it a shot for yourself. If you’re not happy, Amazon will let you send it back within the first 30 days of purchase (sometimes 14 days in Europe) for a full refund. As always, follow us on Google News and we’ll let you know when we find more deals exactly like this one.
