Crucial P510 aims to make Gen 5 SSD speeds more accessible

Powerful, efficient, and affordable.

Crucial has announced its P510 Gen 5 M.2 SSD targeting gamers and content creators with its high transfer speeds. Powered by Phison’s efficient controller, P510 shapes to be an affordable yet powerful drive.

When asked about Gen 5 SSDs, the first thing that comes to mind is hot running and expensive. Well, both may soon become a thing of the past as memory expert Crucial is planning to launch an affordable yet performant M.2 SSD in a couple of months. Based on Phison’s E31T controller, the Crucial P510 SSD checks all the boxes: High enough speed for most users, efficient operation to fit inside mobile devices, and a DRAM-less design to lower the final price.

To be more specific, the brand claims up to 11,000MB/s sequential read and 9,550MB/s sequential write speeds, with 1TB and 2TB capacities. Yes, these won’t max out a Gen 5 interface, but the same goes for your budget as they are expected to be well priced. Crucial is planning at least two variants of each capacity, one with a heatsink and another with a single-sided PCB design to allow installation inside thin laptops.

Regarding efficiency, the brand indicates that P510 consumes 25% less power than its previous Gen 5 SSDs, helping it maintain cooler operation and longer battery life. Unfortunately, Crucial didn’t share any pricing for this new drive, only stating that it will be available worldwide starting in the spring of this year.

But that’s not all, the brand is also launching other affordable storage solutions alongside new DRAM products. Most notably we have a variant of the P310 SSD covered with a heatsink that maintains compatibility with the PlayStation 5, offering 7,100MB/s of read speed.

In addition to its storage solutions, Crucial is expanding its DRAM portfolio with new 32GB DDR5 Pro OC Gaming Memory modules plus 64GB higher density DDR5-5600 Pro plug-and-play memory modules, not to forget its 32GB/64GB CUDIMM and 24GB/32GB CSODIMM DDR5-6400 kits.

With such a lineup, Crucial enters 2025 on all fronts, complementing its already wide product range. For my part, I am more interested in these new efficient SSDs, especially as they should bring prices down.
