AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D remains a fascinating chip for multiple reasons. Having raised the bar for gaming performance through innovative stacked cache, said chip continues to prove popular as a low-cost upgrade path for PC gamers.
Price drops in the summer drove demand, and similar bargains are beginning to reappear. Right now, Ryzen 7 5800X3D pricing at Amazon UK has dropped by 49% to £270.97. That’s practically half price, and not a million miles off the best price seen in the summer. Reductions across the pond are smaller, where the CPU continues to retail for $322. There’s reason to suspect those prices may dip further in the weeks ahead.
Rumours suggest AMD will launch a long-overdue Ryzen 7 5700X3D in January. Said chip is said to be only 400MHz slower than existing 5800X3D, and could result in price adjustments further up the stack.
A go-to gaming CPU
Launched back in April as AMD’s first Ryzen X3D processor, the 5800X3D carries an eight-core, 16-thread configuration. A 105W part, it’s capable of hitting a boost clock of 4.5GHz and features a 3x increase in L3 cache over regular 5800X. It’s the latter that propels performance in certain gaming benchmarks. Our day-one testing highlights significant gains over competing processors, and it’s clear to see why 5800X3D remains a sought-after CPU.
Designed to slot-in to widely available AM4 motherboards, 5800X3D serves as a noteworthy upgrade for users still rocking Ryzen 2000 or 3000 Series hardware. While we’re intrigued to see how much 5700X3D will fetch at launch, 5800X3D returning to around £270 is noteworthy for those who don’t want to wait.
