The most affordable way to upgrade is by looking at the previous generation. AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a prime example of a processor that still holds up today, but respects your wallet way more than 2024’s CPUs. It’s currently fallen to its lowest price ever in some regions, saving you even more money for the best CPU cooler to chill it.

It’s true that we’ve seen Ryzen 7 5800X3D prices drop quite regularly, but none have reached as low as the current discount. In the UK, you can grab the best CPU of yesteryear with 51% off from PRSSL on Amazon, bringing it down to £262. This is £3 cheaper than its previous best price, last seen in July 2023. Amazon US shoppers can grab 27% off the chip at $326.12. This isn’t quite the lowest we’ve seen, but it’s not a bad deal either way.

With a massive L3 cache that’s three times the size of a regular chip, the CPU is a gaming powerhouse. It comes with eight cores, 16 threads, and a 4.5GHz boost clock. You’ll need to make sure it has 105W of power feeding it, but that’s not out of the ordinary for a spec like this. In fact, it’s much more efficient than its Intel equivalent.

You only need to take a look at our AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D review to see how it stacks up against rivals of the same generation.

Generally, you’re looking at 1080p depending on what graphics card you pair with it. That said, it handles 1440p like a champ, too. 3D V-Cache can’t perform miracles, though, requiring you to dip below 60fps when playing some games at 4K.
