Sony’s PlayStation 5 is cheaper than ever but there’s a small catch

There's never been a better time to cop a console.

I’ve wanted a PlayStation 5 for the past three years, missing out on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarok. Sure, they’ll eventually make their way over to PC but waiting years with uncertainty as I fend off spoilers isn’t the nicest way to live. Fortunately, Sony’s PS5 Slim is currently cheaper than ever for Amazon Prime members.

There are a good few savings dotted around, with the console costing $518 (-7%) on Amazon US, €499 (-9%) on Amazon France, and £434.95 (-9%) on Amazon UK. That’s not bad at all, but Blighty goes a step further if you’re an Amazon Prime member. With an active subscription, you can save an additional £40 at checkout, meaning it’ll only nibble £394.95 from your bank account. It’s the first time we’ve seen the console fall below £400, but it won’t last long as a “limited time deal,” so you better hurry.

With enough horsepower to game at 4K up to 120Hz and a high-speed 1TB SSD, PS5 is one of the best modern consoles you can buy. You can easily upgrade the storage to one of the best SSDs around if you fancy more storage space. This one features a disc drive, letting you trade your physical games in once you’re done, putting the cash towards your next adventure. If you’d prefer to go all-digital, the discless version currently has 11% off on Amazon at £349 / $399.

Considering Amazon Prime costs just £8.99 per month or £95 annually, this is more than worth it. The membership offers unlimited video streaming (albeit now with a couple of ads), free next-day delivery, Deliveroo Plus, exclusive discounts, early access to Prime Day deals, and a whole lot more. In fact, I recently got two Odeon cinema tickets for £10 with the service to go and see Late Night With The Devil. Since The Boys season 4 lands on the streaming platform next month, there’s never been a better time to opt in.

Better yet, this deal being on Amazon gives you the option to try it out for yourself, no strings attached. The retailer boasts a 30-day return policy, giving you one month to decide whether you want to keep it or not.

In the meantime, we’ll keep hunting for shiny new tech and gaming deals. To keep apprised, bookmark our deals page, follow us on X and Facebook, and subscribe to our free weekly newsletter. We’ll do our best to make sure so you can save a pretty penny.
