G.Skill reveals world-first 128GB DDR5-8000 RAM kit

Forget about 48GB modules, G.Skill is offering 64GB with fantastic speeds for the heavy multitaskers out there.

G.Skill has announced the world’s first 128GB (2x64GB) RAM kit that provides ample capacity in a dual-channel configuration without trading speed. Boasting an impressive 8,000MT/s speed, these modules set a new bar and will undoubtedly prove popular among workstation users.

The RAM in question is G.Skill Trident Z5 Royal Neo DDR5, which the brand currently offers in kits with capacities up to 96GB (2x48GB) but their speeds top out at 6000MT/s. You can grab 8,000MT/s sticks but you’ll need to settle for a 48GB (2x24GB) buffer. With this in mind, thi achievement of offering 128GB (2x64GB) at 8,000MT/s becomes all the more impressive.

While Intel LGA1851 is typically leads the way in terms of RAM innovation, with world records and support for CUDIMM, this G.Skill kit prioritises AMD Socket AM5. The 8000MT/s speed comes courtesy of an EXPO profile, which the brand proudly showcased using an Asus ROG Crosshair X870E Apex motherboard powered by a Ryzen 9 9950X CPU. In other words, top-of-the-line hardware.

Though not as tight as low-capacity alternatives, the timings of these new modules remain acceptable for what they offer. At CL44-58-58-127, you won’t break any latency records but should still have a perfectly responsive experience. For reference, the best DDR5-8000 kits you can currently have hover around CL36-48-48-98, at the cost of a measly 32GB kit capacity. So, unless your task requires low latency, you will likely benefit more from a higher total capacity.

“This is yet another milestone for DDR5 overclock performance that G.Skill has successfully reached, surpassing all previous limits to demonstrate never before seen memory specifications,” said Frank Hung, product marketing executive at G.Skill. While the brand has yet to reveal pricing, seeing the £390 tag of 96GB DDR5-7000 kits, you can expect these new 128GB DDR5-8000 Trident Z5 Royal Neo kits to retail above that. After all, excellence has a price.
