Nvidia is struggling to meet demand for its GeForce RTX 50 Series cards, namely RTX 5090 and 5080. However, it appears that there may be a supply issue as one UK retailer claims future stock may not be available for purchase for a jaw-dropping 16 weeks at worst.
Overclockers UK posted a blog post updating its customers on current and future availability of GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080, after the outlet ceased further pre-orders of either graphics card. It estimates that it’ll receive further stock for the latter card in “2-6 weeks” while the former ranges between “3-16 weeks.”
The site has no plans to re-open pre-orders until Nvidia provides it, and by extension other retailers, with “greater clarity” on the availability of GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080. Those lucky enough to secure an order but not content to wait so long for their purchase are free to cancel and receive a full refund.
This issue isn’t exclusive to Overclockers UK as stock shortages are apparent across other retailers across the world. This understandably brings into question the availability of GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and 5070, due to launch later this month. It’s entirely possible that this second batch of graphics cards will suffer a similar fate but here’s hoping otherwise.
If you can afford to wait, AMD could reward your patience with Radeon RX 9000 Series cards. While these pixel pushers won’t be available until March, presumably alongside GeForce RTX 5060 rivals, knowing their value relative to Nvidia’s offerings could provide an invaluable hand in assessing your options. That is, unless, they go the same way as Arc B580 and are impossible to come by, particularly at RRP / MSRP.
Should you need a graphics card more immediately, there’s always AMD’s Radeon RX 7000 Series. Speaking as an owner of an RX 7900 XT, I’m happy to wait out this shortage if not this generation of graphics cards altogether.
