With dazzling OLEDs and magnificent Mini LEDs stealing the show, it’s easy to forget just how solid a good LCD gaming monitor is. Leaning into the value prospect, HP Omen 27k reaches a new record low with its latest 33% discount, offering uncompromising performance without adding damage to your wallet.
Spilling over from Black Friday, HP Omen 27k maintains its $367 / £479 price tag on Amazon. Hunt around the Europe and you might even find it for as low as €499. Each are the cheapest we’ve seen the screen, but I don’t imagine they’ll stay this low for much longer, listed as limited-time deals. The US model is even 83% claimed at the time of writing.

Monitor technology moves at such a rapid pace nowadays that it’s difficult to keep up with. Deep enough pockets can get incomprehensibly high resolutions and quick refresh rates, but I’d argue the sweet spot still lies with HP Omen 27k’s 4K / 144Hz combo. It supports Xbox Series X and PS5’s demand for 120fps using HDMI 2.1, while amping up the resolution for graphics cards with enough oomph to strike that delicate balance thanks to DisplayPort 1.4.
I appreciate a good KVM when I see it, and HP Omen 27k packs a decent USB hub. USB Type-B handles the upstream for two 5Gbps/15W USB 3.2 Type A ports, a 3.1mm audio out, and a fully-featured USB Type-C. Although the latter doesn’t include power delivery, it handles video and data perfectly. All ports have enough spec for bandwidth-heavy peripherals, like webcams.
HP doesn’t skimp on the feature set, either. VESA Certified Adaptive Sync with Nvidia G-Sync compatibility staves off screen tearing while 1ms grey-to-grey response times combat blurriness. The image should be as clear as day for you to enjoy IPS colours, including 99% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3 gamut coverage.
I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of high-dynamic range given its janky Windows implementation, but DisplayHDR 400 certification should make movies and some games that much more immersive when you flick it on. Better to have the option and not use it than need it and it be MIA.
