Less than two years since its debut on PlayStation 5, God of War: Ragnarök is coming to PC later this year. Announced during May’s PlayStation Direct, the port will boast all the features we’ve come to expect from ports of first-party PlayStation games. Although, Kratos’ latest adventure should be the most ambitious translation from console to PC yet, with cutting-edge upscalers from all the major players and other platform niceities.
Developers Santa Monica Studio and Jetpack Interactive sadly haven’t disclosed what the God of War: Ragnarök PC system requirements are. Thankfully, we do at least know that the game will leverage the capabilities of the best graphics cards with a wealth of options available exclusively to PC. Suffice to say, if the port is well-optimised, this will undoubtedly be the definitive way to experience Ragnarök.
Alongside an announcement trailer, the first details on the God of War: Ragnarök PC port are available on PlayStation Blog. Naturally, this version will include unlocked frame rates and the ability to run the game at a native 4K resolution, making for a smoother and sharper playing experience providing you have capable enough hardware. Despite there being no mention of resolution support above 4K on PlayStation Blog, we imagine higher resolutions will be available based on the level of support present in God of War (2018) PC.
God of War: Ragnarök PC will support the full suite of upscaling technologies offered by AMD, Intel, and Nvidia. More specifically, the port will arrive with FSR 3.1, XeSS 1.3, and DLSS 3.7. Unless another game steals Kratos’ thunder, this will be the first game to support the latest version of FSR, announced at GDC 2024. There’s no mention of frame generation in the blog or trailer, from AMD or Nvidia. That said, their inclusion seems likely, given the due diligence to use the latest versions of every upscaler.
For those with the best gaming monitors with ultra-wide aspect ratios, Santa Monica Studio and Jetpack Interactive have got your back, with support for 21:9 and 32:9 resolutions. Given how many expansive and gorgeous vistas there are in the game, playing God of War: Ragnarök PC on such a screen should make for a mythically good time.
God of War: Ragnarök is now available to pre-order from both Steam and Epic Games Store and will launch September 19, 2024.
